The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives’ Association (GRNMA) has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the government’s decision to include only the Book and Research Allowance and the Uniform Allowance in the 2025 mid-year budget.
In a statement dated July 11, 2025, the GRNMA described the move as “highly unacceptable” and a reflection of the employer’s disregard for the welfare of nurses and midwives.
The Association insists that the 8% Non-Basic Allowance and fuel allowance must also be captured in the revised budget.
The concerns were raised following a meeting with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Finance, Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, and the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health at Parliament House on July 10.
The Association’s National Council, at an emergency meeting, resolved to attend a follow-up engagement with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission on July 15 to press home their demands.
GRNMA warned that its next steps will depend on the outcome of that meeting and urged government stakeholders to engage with “commitment and good faith.”
“We are grateful for the solidarity of nurses and midwives across the country. We assure you that we will continue to lead in protecting your interest now and in the future,” the statement read.
