The Greater Accra Regional Office of the Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service has carried out an extensive sensitisation exercise at the busy Kaneshie Lorry Station in Accra.
The initiative aimed to raise public awareness about the opportunities within Technical and Vocational Education and Training and to encourage greater youth participation in this vital sector.
Speaking to Adom News, Deputy Regional Director Phillip Aheto explained that the exercise sought to highlight TVET’s crucial role in national development.
With school placements underway and many parents visiting resolution centres to secure spots for their children, Mr. Aheto stressed the importance of educating them on the benefits of choosing TVET as a viable and valuable educational pathway.
Members of the public at the market commended the initiative, noting that TVET has long been undervalued—a situation they believe has negatively impacted employment rates in the country. They called for sustained government efforts to promote skills training as a key solution to tackling youth unemployment.
Corporate Communications Manager for the Greater Accra TVET Service, Jeff Adjei, assured that the sensitisation campaign is not a short-term initiative. He emphasized the ongoing commitment to educating parents and the wider community on why TVET should be a top consideration when selecting educational pathways.
Addressing common misconceptions, Mr. Adjei clarified that TVET is not reserved for those with lesser academic abilities.
On the contrary, skilled professionals trained through TVET are leading the way in job creation globally, proving that vocational education is a powerful tool for economic empowerment.
As Ghana continues to prioritise skills development, the Greater Accra TVET Service remains steadfast in its mission to transform public perception and inspire a new generation of skilled workers ready to drive the nation’s progress.
