The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has unveiled new regulations requiring the inclusion of under-19 players across all tiers of Ghanaian football as part of its youth development strategy.

Under the new rules, Ghana Premier League (GPL) clubs must name at least four U-19 players in their matchday squads, with a minimum of two expected to take the field each game.

In the Division One League (DOL), teams are required to include six U-19 players in their squads, ensuring at least three start every match.

Meanwhile, Division Two clubs must feature eight U-19 players in their squads, with at least four starting in each fixture.

GFA President Kurt Okraku explained that the initiative aims to provide young talents with vital competitive experience, enhancing their growth and improving the overall quality of football in Ghana.

“These regulations will serve as a crucial platform for nurturing the next generation of Ghanaian footballers,” Okraku said.

The new policies will take effect from the 2025/26 season, which kicks off in mid-September, marking a significant step in the GFA’s commitment to youth development and the future success of Ghanaian football.
