Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye

National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, says the government was hasty with its conclusion of instability plot in Ghana following the recovery of arms and explosives.

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, in a press release revealed how State Agencies detected and foiled a planned attack on the Jubilee House leading to the retrieval of several arms, explosive devices and ammunitions from Alajo, Bawaleshie and Dodowa.

According to Mr Vanderpuye, the communication from the Minister of Information was poor because the action and inaction of the government are not supposed to cause panic and fear among citizens but to bring hope.

Speaking on Adom TV’s Badwam show, Mr Vanderpuye said the government must have established concrete conclusions even after the 15-month monitoring.

“We would have had better results if the situation was closely monitored to get conclusive evidence. Government rushed to make hasty conclusions. If they are saying the people were arrested for unlawful possession of weapons, I would have agreed but for a coup, the conclusion was rushed,” he said.

He added: “Plotting a coup is not like grinding pepper in your kitchen where you have your knife, earthenware and the rest because all the weapons retrieved were personal combat weapons.”
