Gov’t urged to reduce import duties on educational materials for private schools

The government has been urged to reduce import duties on educational materials for private schools to help ease financial burdens and enhance teaching and learning in Ghana.

This call was made during a graduation ceremony held at New Baakoyeden in the Obuasi West Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

Speaking to Adom News, Andrew Appiah, Director of Mother’s Love School Complex, underscored the crucial role private schools play in complementing government efforts to provide quality education.

He stressed that reducing import duties on educational supplies would empower these institutions to contribute more effectively to national development.

Elizabeth Anima Appiah, Proprietress of the school, also urged parents to prioritise their children’s education, describing it as the cornerstone of a brighter future.

She further advocated for the introduction of technical and vocational education at the primary and junior high school levels, instead of limiting it to senior high schools.

“Technical students rarely become a burden on parents or the government for employment,” she stated, emphasising the importance of equipping students with employable skills from an early age.
