Headmaster of Worawora SHS, Michael Damesi, has appealed to the government to improve the school’s infrastructure, citing shortages of classrooms, dormitories, and a Science Laboratory.

He said upgrading these facilities is essential to creating an environment where students can thrive academically and personally.

Founded in 1969, Worawora SHS has over 1,037 students enrolled across seven academic programs. The school continues to face challenges due to incomplete infrastructure, which affects both learning and living conditions.

Speaking during the school’s 50th anniversary celebration, themed “Celebrating 50 Years of Academic Excellence, Nurturing Innovative Minds for Ghana’s Economic Growth,” Damesi urged the government to complete the unfinished classrooms and boys’ dormitories, describing them as crucial for the school’s development and students’ well-being.

He noted that two structures built in 2010—the dining hall and kitchen complex, as well as the boys’ dormitory—have since been abandoned. As a result, classrooms have been converted into dormitories, while unfinished dormitories now serve as additional classrooms. The school also lacks a Science block and sufficient staff bungalows, which are vital for proper supervision and student monitoring.

“So we will be very grateful if they complete these facilities for us; it will at least give us some room to operate effectively,” he said.

Despite these challenges, Worawora SHS continues to excel in academics and co-curricular activities. The headmaster expressed confidence that upgraded facilities will allow the school to accommodate more students without compromising discipline or educational standards.

At the event, Oti Regional Minister John Kwadwo Gyapong commended local chiefs for supporting education in the area.

He described Worawora SHS as one of the top-performing schools in the region, though growth is hindered by inadequate infrastructure. Gyapong assured that the government will complete the remaining projects to give the school a facelift and urged students to focus on their studies despite the ongoing challenges.
