The Minister for Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament (MP) for Asunafo South, Dr. Eric Opoku, has announced that government will soon begin efforts to address the infrastructure challenges facing the Kwapong Nursing and Midwifery College in the Ahafo Region.
Speaking at a mini durbar with chiefs, staff, students, and residents of Kwapong, Dr. Opoku noted that for the past eight years, the institution had not received any significant infrastructural improvements under the previous administration.
He highlighted that the school is currently grappling with inadequate facilities such as classroom blocks, dormitories, an assembly hall, and a proper kitchen, which are hampering effective teaching and learning.
Dr. Opoku assured the gathering that government is committed to giving the school a facelift to match its growing student population and enhance academic work.
On behalf of the community, Nana Obuobi Forkuo I, Chief of Kwapong, appealed to the minister to use his position to lobby for more development projects for the college.
He described the current state of the school, established in 2015 under an NDC-led government, as “deplorable” and in urgent need of attention.
The chief also called for the establishment of a hospital in Kwapong to support the students’ clinical training and urged politicians to refrain from turning the institution into a political ground.
