President John Dramani Mahama has announced that government is intensifying efforts to combat illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, while emphasising the need for stronger collaboration with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs).

Speaking during an engagement with CSOs on Monday, March 30, the President acknowledged the pivotal role civil society has played in environmental protection and climate advocacy.

He noted that government is stepping up measures to tackle galamsey and ensure the sustainable management of Ghana’s natural resources.

“Civil society has led in environmental protection, climate advocacy, and the fight against illegal mining. Government is intensifying efforts to combat galamsey, promote sustainable land and water use, and strengthen environmental governance.

“We look forward to closer collaboration in safeguarding our natural resources for future generations. Let me affirm that civil society is not an adversary of government. Indeed, we are partners in nation building,” he said.
