The Ghana government and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) have agreed to establish a technical committee to oversee the appointment of the next Black Stars head coach.

The decision follows a meeting between government officials and the GFA at the Sports Ministry on Friday, 2 October, after Ghana’s disappointing start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

The Black Stars have lost both of their Group C matches and are yet to pick up a point.

Ghana began their campaign with a 2-0 defeat before suffering a 4-2 loss to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium, despite taking a two-goal lead.

The results prompted Carlos Queiroz to resign as head coach after the defeat by The Gambia.

Following Friday’s meeting, it was agreed that a technical committee comprising representatives from the government and the GFA would be formed to oversee the process of selecting Queiroz’s successor.

No timeline has yet been announced for the formation of the committee or the appointment of the new coach.

The Black Stars are scheduled to return to action next month when they face a back-to-back double-header in the AFCON qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Ghana are seeking to return to the continental tournament after missing out on the 2025 edition in Morocco.

The 2027 AFCON will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
