The Government of Ghana has fully endorsed the Bawku Conflict Mediation Report presented by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, describing it as a comprehensive roadmap for lasting peace and reconciliation in Bawku and its surrounding areas.

In an official statement issued on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, the government reaffirmed the Supreme Court’s ruling recognizing Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II as the lawful Bawku Naba, emphasizing that no individual or group is permitted to challenge his authority.

The government also accepted the recommendation that Alhaji Seidu Abagre, installed as a rival claimant, be recalled to Nalerigu by the Nayiri to assume an alternative traditional role, with the state facilitating his safe movement.

To address the socio-economic impact of the prolonged conflict, President John Dramani Mahama has directed the establishment of a GH¢1 billion Bawku Revitalisation Fund. The fund, to be disbursed between 2026 and 2028, will support development in infrastructure, health, education, irrigation, security, and commerce.

A high-level committee chaired by Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Baah Forson will oversee the fund, with the Upper East Regional Minister, Donaltus Akamuguri, and Majority Leader and Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga, serving as members.

The government has called on traditional authorities, political leaders, youth groups, and the public to support the peace process, emphasizing that the responsibility for lasting peace is collective, with no winners or losers.
