The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has announced that Cabinet has approved recommendations from a nationwide review of public land allocations and lease agreements.

Speaking to the media on Monday, February 16, the Minister explained that a specially constituted committee was tasked with conducting a detailed assessment of land allocations and lease arrangements across all regions of Ghana. Upon completing its work, the committee submitted its findings to Cabinet for consideration and policy direction.

“The committee undertook a comprehensive review of all public land allocations and leases across the country. On completion, I submitted the findings and recommendations to Cabinet. I am pleased to announce that Cabinet approved these recommendations with key directives for immediate implementation,” Mr. Buah stated.

The review examined a total of 8,160 lease applications executed or initiated across Ghana’s sixteen regions. This included 4,176 direct land applications, 2,799 regularisation cases, 19 direct allocations linked to state bungalows (typically processed through the Ministry of Works and Housing), 108 land swaps or public-private partnership arrangements—88 of which were in the Ashanti Region—and 795 subsequent transactions.

The Minister noted that the exercise forms part of government efforts to strengthen transparency, accountability, and effective management of public lands, ensuring that allocation processes align with national development priorities and regulatory standards.
