Government to upgrade Mankraso SHS after outstanding NSMQ performance

-

The government has announced a major upgrade for Mankraso Senior High School following the school’s impressive performance in the recently concluded National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).

Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, said the move demonstrates the government’s commitment to supporting high-performing schools and enhancing academic competitiveness nationwide.

Addressing the media in Accra on Wednesday, November 19, the Minister revealed that Mankraso SHS has been added to the list of institutions earmarked for expansion under an ongoing national upgrading programme.

“We intend to expand 10 category B schools to A, and 10 category C schools to B. And then, to many schools listening to me, on my way here I added Mankraso Senior High School based on their performance at the National Science and Maths Quiz. My heart is warmed to reach out to them to show that their country appreciates their efforts,” he said.

The upgrade will increase the school’s capacity, improve learning facilities, and strengthen Mankraso SHS’s competitiveness in national academic contests, while also advancing broader access to quality secondary education.

The Minister also announced that the government will complete 30 community day senior high schools, commonly known as e-blocks, under the 2026 budget.

“We intend, under the $180 million allocation, to complete 30 community-based senior high schools, referred to as e-blocks,” he stated.

According to the Minister, these interventions aim to expand equitable access and equip more schools with the infrastructure needed to deliver strong academic results.
