The Chief of the Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, has announced that the government will roll out 2,000 housing units nationwide to address accommodation challenges within the Armed Forces.
Speaking at the end-of-year non-denominational religious parade of the Ghana Armed Forces held at Burma Camp on Sunday, December 14, 2025, under the theme “Kept by the Power of God,” Lt. Gen. Agyapong disclosed that about 700 of the housing units will be constructed in Accra across five garrisons.
He said the initiative is expected to significantly improve accommodation conditions for military personnel beginning next year. According to him, government plans further indicate that over the next five years, an additional 8,000 housing units will be constructed to ensure decent and comfortable living conditions for officers and men of the Armed Forces.
Beyond accommodation, the Chief of the Defence Staff revealed that government has also approved a major retooling package for the Armed Forces. The package includes the procurement of helicopters, long-haul jets, offshore patrol boats, armoured vehicles, armoured personnel carriers, weapons, protective gear, defence stores, and ammunition.
Lt. Gen. Agyapong also dismissed claims circulating on social media suggesting that the government underpays Ghanaian UN peacekeepers. He described the reports as misinformation and urged the public to be discerning and avoid unverified content.
He assured that government remains committed to improving the welfare and operational readiness of the Ghana Armed Forces, both domestically and on international peacekeeping missions.
