Government to deploy 5,000 agriculture graduates to support farmers – Vice President

Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has announced that the government will soon deploy 5,000 graduates in agriculture and veterinary science across the country to support farmers and bridge the gap between research and practice.

She made the announcement at the 2025 Asogli Yam Festival in the Volta Region on Saturday, October 4, 2025.

The festival, themed “Together in Honesty and Purpose, We Build a Just, Peaceful and Prosperous Nation,” celebrated unity, truth, and national development. The grand durbar featured rich cultural displays, traditional music, and dance, showcasing the region’s heritage while promoting tourism and investment.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang explained that government efforts under the Feed Ghana Programme are focused on reducing post-harvest losses and revitalizing underutilized irrigation systems to enhance crop production.

“Indeed, the Volta Region is showing her potential to be our agricultural backbone. With an irrigation system that is ready to be rehabilitated, the region is ideally placed to scale up crop production, especially rice and yam,” she stated.

The Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, also used the occasion to urge leaders, including chiefs and politicians, to demonstrate greater commitment to national development.

He cautioned that corruption remains a major obstacle to progress and called for honesty and unity in building a prosperous Ghana.
