President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to construct three new stadiums this year as part of a broader national sports development strategy.
The confirmation came during a Citizen Engagement event in Sunyani on Thursday, part of his ongoing ‘Resetting Ghana Tour’ in the Bono Region.
According to Mahama, the government aims to build three additional stadiums in 2027, ensuring that every region in Ghana will eventually have a modern sporting facility.
“When you look at our manifesto, we stated that all regions that do not have stadiums will be provided with one. In this year’s budget, we have factored in the construction of three stadiums this year, and we will do it every year so that every region will have its stadium,” he said.
“As I speak, the stadium design is being put together. We want to make these structures more than just stadiums but also economic centres,” he added.
The initiative is intended to strengthen Ghanaian football by providing world-class training grounds for local athletes, reflecting the administration’s broader commitment to using sports as a driver for social and economic development.
