The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that the government has fully paid all outstanding arrears of the Capitation Grant for public basic schools, covering the period from 2023 to date.
In a statement signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, on Wednesday, July 23, the GES described the payment as a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to supporting the effective management of basic education.
The Capitation Grant provides essential financial support to public basic schools for the procurement of teaching and learning materials, minor repairs, and other operational needs.
“The Management of GES acknowledges and appreciates the efforts of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance for prioritising this payment despite the prevailing economic pressures,” the statement read.
GES also commended heads of schools for their patience and dedication during the delay, urging them to utilise the funds prudently in accordance with established guidelines.
The Service reaffirmed its commitment to improving learning outcomes and delivering inclusive, quality education for all Ghanaian children.
