Dean of Studies and Research at the Institute of Local Government Studies, Dr Eric Oduro Osae wants position of the office of Special Prosecutor advertised.
This he says will lead to the appointment and recruitment of the most efficient person to work in that anti-graft office.
Dr Oduro Osae’s comments comes less than 24-hours President Akufo-Addo assented to the Special Prosecutor Bill making it a law.
The Bill, which was passed last year by Parliament was assented alongside four others.
President Akufo-Addo was hopeful the full implementation of the act would help weed-out corruption in Ghana despite the controversy surrounding the act.
Both past and present public office holders are expected to be subjected to the scrutiny under the new Special Prosecutor law.
But speaking on Adom FM’s Morning Show “Dwaso Nsem” Wednesday, a governance expert, Dr Oduro Osae says the office of the special prosecutor can help the fight against corruption only if the process leading to the appointment of the Special Prosecutor is transparent enough.
“I think selecting a Special Prosecutor must be advertised because when that is done, it will help in recruiting independent and competent lawyers to deal with corrupt officials,” he said.
He called on the media to play its watchdog role by putting pressure to bear on government to ensure that the position is advertised in the national dailies.
