A day-old baby girl has been found alive in a black polythene bag at Fiifi Prat, a suburb of Gomoa Nyanyano in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.

The newborn, believed to have been abandoned by her unknown mother, was discovered in a bush near a fenced wall, with her umbilical cord still attached.

Speaking to Adom News, Chairman of the Fiifi Prat Landlord Association, Charles Oduro, said a good Samaritan heard the baby crying and followed the sound to where the infant had been dumped in the black polythene bag.

He explained that the baby was immediately rushed to a nearby health facility for initial medical attention before being referred to the Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital for further care.

Mr Oduro expressed shock and concern over the incident, questioning how a mother could abandon her newborn under such dangerous circumstances.

Meanwhile, the Central East Regional Commander of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), DSP Doris Laryea, confirmed that the baby has since been handed over to the Department of Social Welfare as investigations continue to trace the mother. She, however, declined further comment.
