Gomoa Assin Omanhene decries drug abuse, teenage pregnancy at Ahorbaa Kese launch

-

The Omanhene of the Gomoa Assin Traditional Council, Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II, has expressed deep concern over the increasing prevalence of drug abuse—particularly the substance known as “Red”—and the rising rate of teenage pregnancy in the country.

He made these remarks during the official launch of the 2025 Ahorbaa Kese Festival, scheduled to take place from August 15 to August 31. This marks the first time the entire Gomoa Assin Traditional Council will celebrate the festival collectively.

Addressing the gathering at the launch event, Obrifo Ankobea II urged the youth to steer clear of illicit drugs and premature relationships, which he described as destructive to their future. He encouraged them to focus on education and personal development rather than chasing temporary pleasures that can derail their progress.

He emphasized that the future of Gomoa depends on a disciplined and educated younger generation.

Also speaking at the event, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa East, Margaret Naana Ackom, called on traditional leaders (Nananom) to unite and collaborate in efforts to drive development across Gomoaman. She highlighted the importance of peace and unity as the foundation for economic and social progress in the area.
