“The Ghana Gold Board wants to buy more gold to generate foreign exchange for the country, but the gold we buy must be mined responsibly to create better value and protect our environment.

Our collective survival depends on the success of the fight against illegal mining, and we cannot afford to fail,” he said.

He also announced upcoming initiatives to ensure value-chain traceability in the gold trade and formalise the small-scale mining sector. GoldBod plans to support the reclamation of 1,000 hectares of devastated forest reserves and back the cooperative mining programme launched by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.

Receiving the donation, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, expressed gratitude to GoldBod, noting that the gesture will significantly strengthen efforts against the galamsey menace at this critical time.
