GoldBod is complicit, compromised in galamsey fight – Adomako Kissi

Former Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom, Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, has accused the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) of being complicit in illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, alleging that the board purchases gold from both legal and illegal sources.

In an interview on Channel One TV, Dr. Adomako claimed that the GoldBod, under the leadership of Sammy Gyamfi, buys gold from “whichever criminal” offers it, thereby making the institution part of the galamsey problem.

“What Goldbod has is a huge amount from both small-scale mining and illegal mining, and he (Sammy Gyamfi) can’t argue anything because he is clueless as to where he is grabbing. He is grabbing from whichever criminal is bringing him gold; that is the situation.

“As it stands now, if someone buys a machine from a thief, the police can still arrest the person for purchasing a stolen item, and he won’t go scot-free; the laws won’t allow him to go scot-free. Once you’re a complicit and I can say today on authority that Goldbod is complicit in the galamsey fight, and they are compromised,” he alleged.

Dr. Adomako further urged GoldBod to implement strict measures to trace the sources of the gold they purchase.

“As it stands now, even potatoes in Europe, you can track it to the farm where it is produced, why can’t we track our gold to the site, and I demand that Goldbod put in measures to track where the gold is coming from,” he said.

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) was established by an Act of Parliament (Act 1140) in 2025 as a corporate body responsible for regulating, overseeing, and conducting activities related to the buying, selling, assaying, refining, and exporting of gold and other precious minerals in Ghana.
