The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has urged Ghanaians to prioritise their safety, especially during the rainy season.
In an interview with Adom News, the Public Relations Officer (PRO), DOII Desmond Ackah, emphasised the importance of staying informed about weather updates and advised drivers to be cautious on the roads.
For those living in waterlogged areas, he suggested relocating to a friend’s house if possible.
He also cautioned people to turn off their televisions during periods of lightning, as this can be dangerous.
Additionally, DOII Ackah advised those who fetch water during rainy periods to be cautious.
“They should wear slippers when stepping out to collect rainwater and, if possible, use plastic buckets. This is the right time to clear clogged gutters to prevent future flooding,” he admonished.
DOII Ackah also reminded everyone to seek shelter during heavy rains, ensuring the location is away from trees and structures that could fall or collapse.
After finding shelter, if needed, they should call for help.
He concluded by highlighting the importance of having the emergency number 112, which can be used to reach the National Fire Service, as well as their office numbers 0302772446 and 0299340383. He mentioned that distance is not a barrier, as help is just a phone call away.
