Swift intervention by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) at Mankessim on Saturday night averted what could have been a major disaster at the ONYXMA Fuel Filling Station.
At about 10:46 p.m., the Mankessim Fire Station received a distress call after a Hyundai Sonata with registration number GE 2672-09 suddenly caught fire near the station’s dispensary point.
Within minutes, the crew arrived at the scene and tactically contained the blaze before it could spread to the fuel pumps.
According to officials, the fire was brought under control at 10:47 p.m. and completely extinguished by 11:10 p.m.
One casualty, the driver of the vehicle, was rushed to hospital by bystanders before the firefighters arrived.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
However, authorities say the timely response of the GNFS prevented a potentially catastrophic situation that could have endangered lives, property, and the entire fuel station.
