A man has been safely rescued after being trapped in a stalled elevator at a hotel in Osu, Accra, in the early hours of Tuesday, June 23, 2026.

The incident occurred around 1:44 a.m. when the elevator suddenly malfunctioned, leaving the occupant stuck inside after the doors reportedly locked automatically.

According to a report by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the victim was trapped for about 15 minutes before help arrived.

The rescue team, led by ADO I Yussif Yakubu, responded promptly to the distress call and managed to safely unlock and open the elevator, bringing the situation under control.

The rescued man was assessed after the operation and confirmed to be in stable condition without sustaining any injuries or health complications.

Authorities have since commended the quick response of the emergency team, noting that timely reporting of such incidents remains critical in preventing potential harm or fatalities.

The Ghana National Fire Service has also reiterated the importance of immediate emergency calls in situations where lives are at risk, especially in cases involving mechanical or structural failures.
