The Safety Department of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has organised an interactive fire safety quiz competition for market women at the Sunyani lorry station in the Bono Region as part of efforts to reinforce fire prevention education.
The exercise formed part of the Service’s ongoing engagement with traders, following more than a decade of sustained fire safety education within the market community.
The quiz was designed to assess the traders’ knowledge and understanding of fire prevention measures regularly shared by fire officers.

Participants who demonstrated strong knowledge of fire safety practices were rewarded with fire extinguishers to encourage preparedness and rapid response in the event of a fire outbreak.

Officers of the Service emphasised that continuous awareness and strict adherence to safety protocols remain essential to protecting lives and property, particularly in densely populated commercial areas.

The Bono Regional Second-in-Command of the GNFS, DO I John Essel, who attended the event, urged the market women to remain vigilant and consistently apply the fire safety guidelines they have been taught over the years.

He described market environments as highly vulnerable to fire outbreaks due to congestion and the use of flammable materials, stressing that prevention remains the most effective strategy for reducing fire incidents.
The GNFS reiterated its commitment to strengthening community-based fire prevention initiatives through education, engagement and practical capacity-building to enhance safety across major trading centres.
