As the festive season draws near, the Western Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has stepped up its fire safety campaign to prevent potential outbreaks during Christmas celebrations.
The campaign, led by the Regional Fire Commander, DOII Bernard Adjei, features an extensive public education drive, round-the-clock patrols, and strict enforcement of fire safety regulations in markets, homes, and event centres.
Addressing traders at the Abenbebom Market in Apremdo, DOII Adjei advised vendors to extinguish all fires at least an hour before closing to reduce the risk of late-night incidents.
He also cautioned against unsafe electrical wiring and congested cooking areas, warning that the Service would not hesitate to take action against anyone found breaching safety standards.
In a related initiative, the Public Relations Department of the Western Command, led by DOII Emmanuel Bonney, took the campaign to New Day TV to educate the public on fire precautionary laws, vehicle fire prevention, and event safety management.
They further encouraged households to install smoke detectors, keep fire extinguishers within easy reach, and ensure that exit routes remain clear in case of emergencies.
According to the Command, these activities form part of GNFS’s broader plan to promote a culture of safety, minimise fire-related losses, and ensure a peaceful and incident-free festive season across the region.
“We want everyone to celebrate Christmas safely. Prevention is our shared responsibility,” DOII Bonney stressed.
