Tension is mounting at the Adenta Circuit Court 2 as two students of West African Senior High School (WASS), together with a third individual, reappeared before the court over the alleged assault of a teacher, Nicholas Teye.

Teachers, along with members of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), have gathered at the court premises in a strong show of solidarity with their colleague.

The atmosphere remains charged, with many anxiously awaiting the court’s decision, which is expected to set the tone for how similar incidents may be handled in the future.

The accused persons are facing charges in connection with an incident that occurred in February 2026 on the WASS campus in Adenta.

According to reports, the confrontation began after a disagreement between the teacher and one of the students during school hours. The situation escalated when the student, allegedly angered by disciplinary action, mobilised another colleague and an outsider believed to be a former student or acquaintance.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the trio confronted the teacher on the school premises, leading to a physical altercation. The teacher sustained injuries and was subsequently treated at a health facility. The incident prompted swift intervention by school authorities and law enforcement, resulting in the arrest of the suspects.

The assault sparked widespread condemnation from education stakeholders, with teacher unions calling for stricter enforcement of discipline and enhanced security measures in schools. GNAT, in particular, warned that such acts undermine the authority of educators and create an unsafe learning environment.

As proceedings continue, observers say the outcome of the case could have far-reaching implications, not only for the accused individuals but also for discipline and policy enforcement within Ghana’s education sector.
