Ghanaian swimmer Abeiku Jackson has qualified for the semi-finals of the men’s 50m event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games after an impressive performance in the heats.
Jackson continued his impressive form by clocking 24.11s, improving on his entry time of 24.22s to secure an automatic qualification spot.
The Ghanaian finished fourth in his heat and placed 14th overall out of 70 swimmers, keeping Team Ghana’s hope alive in the swimming competition.
Canada’s Joshua Liendo topped the heats with a time of 23.66s, followed by Australia’s Cam McEvoy and England’s Jacob Peters, who both recorded 23.74s.
Meanwhile, Ghana’s Unilez Takyi missed out on qualification after finishing seventh in her heat.
Takyi recorded a time of 27.13s, bringing her Commonwealth Games campaign in the event to an end.
Ghana’s 4x100m medley relay team also failed to qualify for the semi-finals after finishing their heat with a time of 4.16.85s, placing them 15th out of the 19 competing nations.
