The President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, has called for the immediate dismissal of the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), citing what he describes as unprofessional conduct following the alleged assault on a Class FM journalist.

Speaking at a Constitutional Day media briefing, Mr. Dwumfour said he personally contacted the GNFS PRO, DO II Desmond Ackah, to seek clarification on the reported assault of Class Media Group journalist Samuel Addo during coverage of the Kasoa New Market fire outbreak.

According to the GJA President, the response he received from the PRO was unprofessional and inadequate, raising serious concerns about his suitability for the role.

He therefore urged journalists nationwide to cease engaging with the GNFS PRO, describing him as unfit to hold the position.

Mr. Dwumfour further called on the Chief Fire Officer, Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, to issue a public apology to Samuel Addo over the incident.

He also criticised a statement issued by the Ghana National Fire Service, describing it as misleading and contradictory. According to him, the statement appeared to shield uniformed personnel allegedly involved in the assault rather than demonstrate accountability.

The GJA President stressed that the Association is demanding the immediate arrest of all persons involved in the alleged attack and warned against attempts to downplay the matter.

He emphasised that the GJA will not treat the incident lightly, insisting that attacks on journalists undermine press freedom and democratic accountability and must be dealt with decisively.
