The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Elections Committee Chairman, Kofi Yeboah Agbeko, has reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to conducting a credible election, scheduled for Monday, June 30, 2025, across the country.
In a statement issued ahead of the polls, Mr. Agbeko said the committee, with technical support from an advisor from the Electoral Commission of Ghana, remains focused on upholding the highest democratic standards throughout the exercise.
Responding to recent concerns over proxy voting and allegations of a bloated voter register, Mr. Agbeko dismissed the claims as unsubstantiated.
“Proxy voting is a legitimate and internationally accepted electoral provision. We have instituted strict safeguards to ensure the system is not abused,” he stated.
He also cautioned against attempts to undermine the process with unverified accusations.
“It is unfortunate when individuals project personal biases as facts and try to sow doubt without evidence. Constructive concerns are welcome and will be addressed, but we must not derail the process with emotion and speculation,” Mr. Agbeko added.
Drawing on his experience as Secretary to the 2021 GJA Elections Committee, he emphasized his determination to oversee a successful election.
“With just a week to the polls, let me be clear: this Chairman is not going anywhere. I intend to see this process through—faithfully, professionally, and in service of our Association,” he affirmed.
The Elections Committee is expected to meet all candidates on Tuesday evening to foster transparency, unity, and professionalism ahead of the vote.
The committee has called on all stakeholders to support efforts to protect the integrity of the GJA and uphold its democratic values.
