The Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has expressed deep concern over the recent accident involving journalists who were on official assignment covering illegal mining activities in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
In a statement signed by its Regional Chairman, Kofi Adu Domfeh, the Association extended solidarity to the affected journalists, their families, and their media houses, assuring them of the GJA’s unwavering support.
“The safety, welfare, and protection of journalists remain paramount to the GJA, and this unfortunate incident underscores the risks associated with the critical work our members undertake in the public interest,” the statement read.
The Association said it is engaging relevant authorities to ensure that the affected journalists receive the necessary medical care and emotional support.
It also urged all institutions that work with the media in high-risk operations to strictly adhere to safety protocols and ensure proper coordination during field assignments.
The GJA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting its members and promoting safer conditions for journalists involved in national assignments such as illegal mining coverage.
