The Northern Regional Command of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has intercepted and repatriated 55 undocumented foreign nationals following an intelligence-led operation.
In a statement signed by ACI Michael Amoako-Atta, Head of Public Affairs at GIS, the Service said the foreigners were victims of alleged fraudulent schemes and were without proper immigration documentation.
The operation was carried out in line with a recent directive from Comptroller-General of Immigration, Mr Samuel Basintale Amadu, who tasked all Regional and Border Commanders to step up efforts against cyber fraud and immigration-related crimes.
“A swoop in a suburb of Tamale led to the rescue of 38 Burkinabes, who were reportedly linked to an alleged network marketing scheme identified as NEOLIFE. Investigations further revealed that they did not possess valid travel documents,” the statement noted.
Another 17 Burkinabes were also arrested in a separate operation in a different suburb of Tamale. They were allegedly involved in another network marketing scheme, QNET, and were also found without valid travel documents.
The GIS confirmed that all 55 individuals have since been safely repatriated.
The Service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Ghana’s borders while ensuring that foreign nationals are treated lawfully and humanely.
