The Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) has dismissed reports suggesting that the government plans to award bauxite concessions at Nyinahin to businessman Ibrahim Mahama, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement reacting to the publication, GIADEC said there is no such plan by the Government of Ghana and urged the public to disregard the assertion entirely.

According to the Corporation, the government’s current approach to the management of Ghana’s bauxite resources is guided by President John Dramani Mahama’s vision to ensure the country derives maximum value from its natural resources.

As part of this strategy, approval was granted for GIADEC to hold leases over all known bauxite reserves nationwide.

This, GIADEC explained, is intended to strengthen its mandate and position the sector to attract credible investments and strategic partnerships.

GIADEC disclosed that in June 2025, it secured six mining leases covering key bauxite concessions across the country, including Nyinahin. These leases, the Corporation noted, are currently before Parliament for ratification.

The Corporation further stressed that under the government’s new policy framework, bauxite concessions will remain vested in GIADEC as the leaseholder.

It added that steps are being taken to safeguard this arrangement beyond the tenure of the current administration, to ensure long-term stability and consistency in the management of the resource.

GIADEC concluded by reiterating that any publication claiming the government intends to allocate bauxite concessions to any individual is inaccurate and should be treated as such.
