Ghanaians have been urged to embrace and promote locally manufactured products as a strategic pathway to job creation and economic growth, particularly within the gold sector.
The call was made by Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang at the opening of the three-day Goldbod Jewellery Heritage Village in Accra.
The initiative is designed to showcase Made-in-Ghana excellence while highlighting the full value chain of locally sourced gold.
Addressing participants at the event, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stressed the importance of value addition, noting that Ghana’s long-term prosperity depends not only on its abundant gold reserves but also on the country’s ability to refine and transform these resources into finished products locally.
She emphasised that prioritising Ghanaian-made goods would not only strengthen the country’s position in the global gold economy but also create sustainable employment opportunities for the growing population.

She further encouraged citizens to patronise Goldbod Jewellery products and support other indigenous brands.
The Heritage Village, she noted, represents a significant step toward repositioning Ghana’s gold industry, moving beyond raw exports to a more value-driven approach that retains greater economic benefits within the country.
Managing Director of Goldbod Jewellery, Gertrude Emefa Donkor Esq., also underscored the economic losses Ghana continues to incur through the export of unrefined gold products.

She explained that exporting raw materials denies the country the full benefits of its natural resources, including job creation, revenue generation, and industrial growth.
According to her, the three-day exhibition is expected to deepen public understanding of Goldbod Jewellery’s work while encouraging Ghanaians to appreciate and support locally made products across various sectors.
The General Manager of Goldbod Jewellery, Daniel Bugyie speaking to the news team after the official opening, expressed optimism about the initiative, noting that it would serve as a platform to educate the public and stimulate interest in Ghana’s jewellery industry.

The Goldbod Jewellery Heritage Village is not only a celebration of craftsmanship but also a bold statement about Ghana’s economic future—one that prioritises value addition, local enterprise, and national pride.
