Ghanaians mourn victims of military helicopter crash

Ghanaians have taken to social media to express grief and disbelief following the tragic deaths of eight individuals in a military helicopter crash.

The victims included Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Environment, Science and Technology Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

The two ministers were among eight people, including a presidential staffer and members of the Ghana Armed Forces(GAF), onboard a Z-9 military helicopter.

The aircraft went down in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region while heading to Obuasi.

Since news of the crash broke, tributes have flooded platforms including X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and Instagram.

National Democratic Congress (NDC) General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey posted on X, “Heartbroken! Sad day.”

Ofoase Ayirebi MP, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, also expressed heartfelt condolences.

“…For the Pope John Sec Sch fraternity, Pojoba Senior Dr. Omane Boamah’s demise stings extra painfully,” he wrote.
