Dutch-born Ghanaian defender Derek Emmanuel Adjei Agyakwa has sealed a move to Greek Super League side Volos FC, marking the next chapter in his steadily rising career.
The 24-year-old arrives in Greece following an impressive stint in Georgia, where he played a pivotal role in Iberia 1999’s domestic dominance.
Agyakwa began his football education in the Netherlands with FC Twente’s youth academy before relocating to England in January 2020 to join Premier League outfit Watford. He made his senior debut for the Hornets later that year, featuring in an EFL Cup win over Oxford United, and went on to gain valuable international experience during a loan spell with Italian club Como.
After departing Watford, the defender continued his development in English football, turning out for Port Vale and enjoying a brief loan spell at Chorley, where he earned regular first-team minutes.
His career trajectory took a significant upswing in February 2024 with a move to Georgian side Iberia 1999. Agyakwa quickly established himself as a key figure, helping the club secure back-to-back Erovnuli Liga titles in 2024 and 2025.
Across all competitions, he made 72 appearances during his time in Georgia and capped his spell by scoring in the 2025 Georgian Cup final, further highlighting his growing influence.
The switch to Volos offers Agyakwa the chance to test himself at a higher level in one of Europe’s competitive top-flight leagues. He is expected to provide depth, versatility and valuable continental experience as Volos look to bolster their squad for the Greek Super League campaign.
