Ghana’s football community has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of Berekum Chelsea forward Dominic Frimpong.

The 20-year-old, who was on loan from Aduana FC, was confirmed dead after an armed robbery attack on the team bus on Sunday, April 12.

The club was returning to Berekum after their Matchday 29 Ghana Premier League fixture against FC Samartex at DUN’s Park, a match they lost 1-0, when the incident occurred.

According to reports, armed men opened fire on the bus, forcing players and officials to abandon the vehicle and flee into nearby bushes in a bid to escape.

During the chaos, Frimpong sustained a gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The devastating news has triggered an outpouring of grief across social media, with several Ghanaian clubs and football stakeholders paying tribute to the young striker.

Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched a manhunt for the armed robbers behind the attack, which occurred at Ahyiresu.
