Ghana is set to mark World Tourism Day 2026 with a week-long celebration in Koforidua, Eastern Region, as the annual event is merged with the Eastern Expo to promote tourism, culture, creative arts and investment.
The celebration, scheduled for September 26 to October 3, will be held under the theme, “Unlocking Opportunities for Sustainable Trade, Tourism and Investment.”
The programme is expected to bring together tourism operators, businesses, exhibitors, investors, policymakers and members of the public to showcase products and services, exchange ideas and explore opportunities for collaboration.
Activities will begin on Saturday, September 26, with a health walk aimed at promoting wellness and encouraging public participation in the celebrations.
On Sunday, September 27, which is observed globally as World Tourism Day, stakeholders will participate in a sensitisation workshop on the global theme, “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism.”
The workshop will provide a platform for discussions on the opportunities and challenges presented by digital technology and artificial intelligence in the tourism industry, as well as ways of promoting sustainable tourism practices and investment.
Seminars will also be held on the day, bringing together experts and industry players to discuss tourism promotion and practical opportunities that could contribute to local economic development.
The week-long programme will officially open on Monday, September 28, with the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, expected to lead the opening ceremony.
The event will also feature an exhibition where businesses and tourism operators will showcase various tourism products and services, creating opportunities for marketing, networking and potential partnerships.
According to the organisers, the celebration is intended to highlight the role of tourism in economic growth, job creation, enterprise development and community participation.
The programme will also align with the Black Star Experience and is expected to showcase the Eastern Region’s tourism and investment potential while creating opportunities for local businesses and communities.
The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts is encouraging stakeholders and the public to participate actively in the activities as Ghana seeks to promote a sustainable tourism sector capable of supporting livelihoods and national development.
