Ghana spent approximately $1.26 million on 2,922 spectator tickets for the Black Stars’ three group-stage matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Iddie Adams has told Parliament.
Adams disclosed this while appearing before Parliament’s Select Committee on Youth and Sports to account for Ghana’s participation in the tournament held across the United States, Mexico and Canada earlier this summer.
The Buem MP said the tickets were purchased for Ghana’s group-stage matches against Panama, England and Croatia.
A breakdown presented to the committee showed that 948 tickets were bought for the opening game against Panama, 1,000 for the match against England and 974 for the final group fixture against Croatia.
“We spent about $1.26 million on the procurement of the 2,922 tickets,” Adams told the committee.
The minister said the beneficiaries included members of the Ghana Supporters Union, Ghana’s High Commissions in the United States and Canada, Ghanaians living in the diaspora, the Ghana Students Association, the official government delegation and selected officials of the Ghana Football Association.
According to the ministry, the ticket purchases formed part of arrangements to support Ghana’s participation and spectator presence at the World Cup.
The Black Stars played four matches at the tournament, progressing from the group stage after facing Panama, England and Croatia before losing to Colombia in the Round of 32 in Kansas City.
