Ghana’s economy expanded by 7.5 per cent in January 2026, according to the Ghana Statistical Service, signalling sustained growth at the start of the year, though slightly lower than the 8.2 per cent recorded in January 2025.

Data from the Monthly Indicator of Economic Growth (MIEG) shows the services sector as the main driver, growing by 9.6 per cent and contributing 54.3 per cent of total output. The industry sector followed with a 7.2 per cent expansion, accounting for 29.0 per cent, while agriculture recorded the slowest growth at 4.5 per cent, contributing 14.0 per cent.

Government Statistician, Dr Alhassan Iddrisu, noted that the strong performance of the services sector underscores its dominant role in Ghana’s economic structure.

However, the data points to uneven growth, with slower expansion in agriculture raising concerns about productivity in a sector vital for employment and food security. Industry growth, though steady, also indicates the need to deepen value addition.

Sustaining the momentum, the report suggests, will require a balanced approach focused on strengthening industrial capacity, improving agricultural productivity, and leveraging gains in the services sector to enhance overall economic resilience.
