Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mark Addo, has revealed that the Football Association is continuing efforts to secure a suitable headline sponsor for the Ghana Premier League, although he stopped short of giving a timeline for when a deal could be announced.
Speaking to the media after the 32nd Ordinary Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer of Excellence at Prampeam, Addo said the GFA’s marketing department remains engaged with potential commercial partners as it seeks to strengthen the league’s financial foundation.
“Work continues every day in trying to find the right sponsor and the right fit for the Ghana Premier League.”
While acknowledging that the league may not currently have a headline sponsor, Addo insisted that this does not mean commercial activity around the competition has stalled.
He explained that the GFA is pursuing several other opportunities, particularly in relation to media rights and television coverage, which he said are already generating substantial benefits for the clubs.
“Even though we may not necessarily have, like, a headline sponsor, there is other work that’s going on there for you to see the benefits that teams are currently enjoying.”
Addo said the GFA is being deliberate in its approach to sponsorship, arguing that securing the right commercial partner is more important than rushing into an agreement that may not serve the long-term interests of the league.
He therefore urged stakeholders to be patient as negotiations continue, stressing that the GFA is actively working to identify a partner that can deliver meaningful value to the competition.
“Ghana Premier League is our best product, so we have to also make sure that we have the right fit in terms of the right sponsor.”
“I’m not going to stand here and tell you that we have one tomorrow, but I can tell you for a fact that work continues every day in trying to find the right sponsor and the right fit for the GPL,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League has been scheduled to kick off on September 5.
