  1. There are Serious disparities in salaries received by public servants. To begin with, I personally do not think anybody in the public sector in Ghana should by their performance and all receive above GHC 35,000.00 monthly.
Take a look at the economy and see for yourselves how shattered it is. I saw a list of public servants who were supposed to be receiving above GHC 40,000 to over 120,000 per month. The source of this info seemed credible.
I couldn’t understand how graduates in the public service could receive GHC 700 whereas others receive GHC 120,000. If you are in the private sector and receiving GHC 1,000,000, I have no problem with that. However, I just cannot understand the nature of work some public servants do to merit GHC 70,000, GHC 80,000, GHC 90,000, etc. How? in this shattered economy? Just don’t get it.
This whole disparity begun in the Jerry John Rawlings’ NDC 1. Prior to this period, workers were being paid based on notches. By notches, increments to salaries were based on amount increments. For example, if when there is an increment, it could be that every one received an increment of GHC 95. It meant that on the payroll, everybody’s salary went up by GHC 95.00. However, during the NDC 1 period, greed on their part resulted in them using percentages as the means of increment. It meant that assuming I am receiving GHC 200, a CEO receives 2,000 and a clerk receives GHC 20 and an increment of 10% is given across the board (across the board happened to be the favorite expression of these greedy nuts). It means that the boss now gets GHC 2,200, I get GHC 220 and the clerk gets GHC 22.

Over time, this across the board became the favorite rap of these greedy politicians. There was even competition among the various CEOs as to who receives the highest salary. The sad part is that they compare themselves with their counterparts abroad forgetting that the labourer and other staff also should then do that comparison. I always thought the NPP government will be more considerate, but alas, same same same greed. It was then that I realized that Ghanaian politicians are the same and greedy without cause to anything good. They also continued this across the board percentage business. The lower ranked clerks and laborers in some of these organizations without any aim and ambitions also welcomed this idea because, to them, they earned better than their colleagues in the civil service and other places. This has continued to now. I thought Hackman Owusu Agyeman genuinely wanted to stop this when he became Chairman for Cocobod. The salary for the last CEO before the NPP came to govern was GHC 70,000. The list I saw now pegs the CEO at GHC 75,000. very disgusting.
When I saw that of the Governor of Bank Of Ghana, I nearly collapsed. In these days of our cedi falling in value? We are not a serious country.

    SOLUTION
Tax payers in Ghana should form a Tax Payers Association of Ghana. We should all contribute to this association and make use of the professionals in it. We should force the government to recognize it and they should determine the salaries of CEOs. Ministers, MPs, President, VICE, etc. If we do not do this, some people will very soon be earning GHC 550,000 whereas others will earn less than GHC 1,000 as graduates. A word to the wise is enough.
he who has ears, let him hear.
