Indonesian side Persib Bandung has mutually parted ways with Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien.
He has been released by the Indonesian top-flight side ahead of the new season after has deemed him as being surplus to requirement.
The 35-year-old former Chelsea and Real Madrid star was refused a contract extension by the Bandung Tigers after the expiration of his one-year deal.
He was absent during the presentation of Persib Bandung squad to the fans for the new season on Saturday at Graha Persib.
“Essien was not among the players we launched because we wanted to fulfill the PSSI regulation of four foreign players in a team” club official Zainuri Hasyim told journalists.
Essien netted five goals in 29 game outings for the Indonesian side last season and is close to sealing a new deal with Bali United
