A 45-year old farmer at Adidwan near Asante-Mampong has run into trouble with the law for allegedly duping a court registrar of his cash of GHȼ12,300.00.
Ibrahim Mohammed reportedly took the money under the pretext of selling to the victim, a KIA Rhino truck.
He was on Wednesday put before a Kumasi Circuit Court and was ordered by the presiding judge, Mrs. Mary Nsenkyire, to be held in prison custody.
The accused, who denied any wrongdoing, would make his next appearance on February 23.
Police Chief Inspector Timothy Amoako told the court that the incident happened in May, last year.
Mohammed had gone to the Ash-Town Court, where he met the victim, Mr. Gabriel Kofi Kyeremeh, then registrar of the court.
Through conversation, the accused told him about his plans to take civil action against people he claimed had bought vehicles from him but failed to pay for these.
He convinced the registrar that he could get for him any vehicle of his choice on more favorable terms and he expressed interest.
The accused agreed to sell to him a KIA Rhino truck at GHȼ65,000.00 and GHȼ12,300.00 was paid to him with a promise to deliver the truck within a week.
The prosecution said after collecting the money, Mohammed went into hiding and was not heard of, until he was arrested.
Mohammed told the court that the agreement reached between them was that, the truck was going to be delivered after Mr. Kyeremeh had paid to him an amount of GH¢40,000.00.
He insisted that it was rather the victim who could not fulfil his part of the bargain.
