The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has arrested five persons following violent clashes that occurred between Konkombas and Dagombas at the Agbogbloshie market on Tuesday.

The Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, ASP Effia Tenge who confirmed the incident on Adom FM’s Morning Show “Dwaso Nsem” Thursday said the police retrieved some locally manufactured weapons from the suspects arrested so far over the incident.

“The place is relatively calm and since the incident broke [Tuesday], the police have been able to arrest five persons. Two of these persons were found with locally manufactured pestle on them and some cartridges. One of them even had a knife on him. So they are presently with the police and assisting with investigations” she said.

Violent clashes erupted Tuesday between Konkombas and Dagombas at the Agbobloshie Yam market in Accra with two people reported dead.

According to reports, the violence started after a Dagomba man was beaten by some Konkombas for allegedly stealing a mobile phone Monday evening.

Two people including a pregnant woman were shot with several others sustaining gory cutlass wounds.

But ASP Effia Tenge said investigations are still ongoing nonetheless.

She said a joint military and police team have since been deployed to the scene to restore calm.
