The Minister Designate for Inner Cities and Zongo Development as well as the Member of Parliament for Madina; Alhaji Boniface Abubakar Saddique said his ministry will implement educational concepts aimed at providing scholarships and awards to students and teachers to boost their confidence and motivation to learn and teach respectively.

According to him, the various Zongo schools in the country do not tally in terms of performance with that of the elite schools hence it’s difficult to deploy a teacher to educate the students because of the ‘unfriendly atmosphere’ present.

“We will motivate teachers and students to build confidence for a better teaching and learning process in the Zongos. Students who perform well would be awarded scholarships. Teachers will be given awards too. ‘The best Zongo teacher and best Zongo student would be established’…,” he said during an interview on Accra based Neat FM.

He further said, the Zongo development fund is for the citizenry and not only those residing in the Zongo communities rather to support the less privileged in society.

“The Zongo development fund can’t be a ministry on its own. It is not for Muslims in the Zongos only. Some Christians stay there too. Individual business plans are likely to be looked at and considered based upon how important it is. We won’t discriminate…,”

“NDC in their own wisdom created holidays for the Muslims; giving two free days for their festival. But Inner city and Zongo development is also for everyone…” he explained.
