Trade and Industry Minister designate, Alan Kyerematen has announced that defunct state-owned factories across the country will be revamped under the one district, one factory policy.

The flagship project championed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the campaign, he noted will be a major source of job creation in the country.

Mr. Kyerematen revealed this while answering questions from the 25 member Appointment Committee of Parliament Monday.

With 216 districts in the country, at least a total of 216 factories are expected to be put up across the country, each one depending on the raw materials available in the district.

Touching on how soon the factories will be established in the districts, Mr. Kyerematen said it would depend on the commitment of MMDCEs, Members of Parliament (MPs) and other stakeholders in the area.

The policy, he said will be a strategic partnership with the private sector with a close collaboration of the local authorities.

The Minister designate stated that, another key component of the policy is to add value to the various raw materials grown at the various districts in the countries.

Alan Kyerematen added that, the policy will provide massive employment to the teeming youth in the country.
