Ghana Navy to acquire offshore patrol vessels to boost maritime security

The Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, has revealed that the Ghana Navy is in the final stages of acquiring offshore patrol vessels to enhance its operations and strengthen maritime security.

Speaking at the Ghana Navy Memorial Day Celebration in Sekondi on Sunday, September 14, Rear Admiral Bessing said the acquisition forms part of a broader strategy to boost the Navy’s capacity to address both traditional and emerging threats within Ghana’s territorial waters.

“Plans are far advanced for the acquisition of offshore patrol vessels to further enhance our operational capabilities,” he stated.

He noted that the vessels will extend the Navy’s reach, improve its ability to safeguard the maritime domain, and ensure greater protection of Ghana’s coastal resources.

Rear Admiral Bessing also paid glowing tribute to personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty, assuring their families that their sacrifices will always be honoured.

“Their contributions will never be forgotten, and their legacy continues to inspire our commitment to duty,” he said.
