Ghana defender Alidu Seidu has underlined the urgency for the Black Stars to secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting that the team must restore its reputation on the global stage.
The dynamic right-back returns to the national setup for the decisive qualifiers against the Central African Republic and Comoros later this month, marking his comeback after a long layoff with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.
Speaking to Flashscore.com, Seidu said his focus is firmly on helping Ghana recover from the disappointment of missing out on qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
“We must qualify for the World Cup,” he stated emphatically.
“Ghana is a big football nation, and missing AFCON was disappointing. We need patience, but with the young players coming through, we’ll be a strong and difficult team to beat in the coming years.”
The Black Stars opened camp on Sunday in Casablanca, Morocco, as preparations intensify ahead of the crucial fixtures.
Ghana will face the Central African Republic at the Stade d’Honneur de Meknès on Wednesday, October 8, before returning home to host Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium in their final qualifying match.
