Former Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Dr. Tony Aubynn, has stressed the importance of Ghana securing a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, urging all stakeholders to do everything possible to ensure qualification.

The Black Stars currently top Group I with 19 points from eight qualifying matches, with just two games remaining.

After a brief setback in a frustrating draw against Chad, Ghana returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday night.

“Black Stars qualifying for the World Cup is extremely important; it enhances our reputation as a football nation,” Dr. Aubynn, also a Board Member of Medeama SC, told Citi Sports.

“Ghana is a football powerhouse in Africa, and the records speak for themselves. Qualifying is crucial, and we must do everything possible to secure our place,” he added.

The Black Stars will look to confirm their 2026 World Cup spot—co-hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada—when they face the Central African Republic and Comoros in their final qualifying matches next month.
